Tips For Successful Term Paper Writing

A term paper is a paper that undergraduates write on an academic term paper. It is an important portion of the final grade. It is designed to present the student’s findings and argument in a clear and concise way. The term papers are typically required to submit as part of a portfolio to be used for graduation or other forms of academic or professional achievement recognition. Merriam Webster defines it as a “short note, usually less than one page, usually representing an ideas or some specifics about the subject”.

The term papers are classified into two categories which are: basic and advanced. A basic paper is typically a paragraph or two that presents the topic and points out the various methods of reasoning and research used to support it. Academic writing and argumentation skills are used in this type of essay. Advance term papers on the other hand, are typically composed of three or four paragraphs that examines the subject in depth, but do not always contain strong academic arguments.

The title page is the most important portion for those who write on their own. The title page will give students an idea of the length of their project and what they can expect from the final product. Students are often required to write about a subject from a particular perspective. The title page should convey this information to the reader. Examples include essays on art, history literature, philosophy, and political science. The title page of the research paper, project document, or dissertation should be different.

Next, you need to choose the right research sources for your term papers. There are many reliable sources to consider when writing term papers. These include primary research, secondary research, and secondary sources. Primary research is the actual research on the topic and secondary research is directly related to the research of the author. A third type of secondary sources are any additional facts, thoughts or information that an author might discover while reading material that wasn’t primary. It is always recommended to collect multiple secondary sources prior to you write your main research paper.

The introduction is probably the most important part of the term paper since it is the first paragraph that will comprise the main idea of the paper. This will aid students in understanding the purpose of the paper. Many students skip the introduction, believing it is not needed. A good introduction will give you the major aspects of the essay. It should be written in clear and simple English.

Before you begin writing the term paper, it is recommended to outline the key points. Once you have a rough draft, revise the introduction and then rewrite it using the ideas you gathered from the outline. This will make the paper conform to the outline that you previously worked on. It is a good idea to have someone to go over your term paper before you submit it. This is particularly important if there are several individuals who are looking over the assignment.

Another step to take before writing the term paper is to identify the topic of your choice and look over similar papers to ensure that your topic is unique. If the topic you choose appears to be similar to one paper, then it’s okay to simply borrow parts of the paper. For example, borrowing information about the chosen topic from one about marketing strategies could be okay. However, borrowing entire pages or paragraphs of information is not acceptable since this would be considered plagiarism.

Don’t use paragraphs throughout the term paper. Students tend to use between four and five paragraphs per page and that is fine. It is recommended for students to use 12 to 24 paragraphs, rather than the usual four to five. Be sure to include the proper footnotes on each page’s bottom.
